Overview

We are seeking a Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) / NDT Level II Inspector to support production and inspection of hardware for the Department of Defense (DOD) contracts within an AS9100-certified environment. This individual will play a key role in ensuring weld quality, compliance with industry and customer standards, and adherence to internal quality processes. The ideal candidate will have experience performing detailed weld inspections per MIL-STD-3040A, AWS D1.1 and D1.2 standards, developing inspection maps, and executing nondestructive testing (NDT) including dye penetrant and magnetic particle inspections.
Responsibilities
Perform weld inspections in accordance with MIL-STD-3040A, AWS D1.1 and D1.2 standards.
Develop inspection maps and inspection planning based on engineering drawings and contractual requirements.
Review and interpret Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs), and Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ) documentation.
Support weld certification programs, including qualification and requalification of welders, maintaining proper certification records to demonstrate ongoing competency.
Execute NDT Level II inspections using dye penetrant (PT) and magnetic particle (MT) methods in accordance with applicable procedures and standards.
Document inspection results and ensure all records are complete, traceable, and compliant with AS9100 and customer quality requirements.
Work closely with Quality Engineering, Manufacturing, and Program teams to resolve non-conformances and implement corrective actions.
Provide technical guidance on weld quality, inspection planning, and NDT requirements.
Support internal and external audits as the subject matter expert for welding and NDT activities.
Certified AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) in good standing.
NDT Level II certification in at least Dye Penetrant (PT) and Magnetic Particle (MT) methods per NAS-410 or equivalent.
Minimum 10 years of experience performing weld and NDT inspections in an AS9100 or military/defense manufacturing environment.
Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, weld symbols, and specifications.
Experience developing and executing inspection plans and weld inspection maps.
Working knowledge of WPS, PQR, and welder qualification processes.
Strong attention to detail and documentation discipline.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills across functional teams.
Experience supporting DOD or aerospace hardware production.
Familiarity with additional NDT methods (e.g., Ultrasonic, Radiographic).
Experience with weld repair documentation, nonconformance management, and root cause analysis.
Knowledge of AS9100 and NADCAP requirements related to special processes.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Education Requirements
High School Diploma or Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Welding Technology, Materials Science, Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in weld inspection and NDT within an AS9100, aerospace, or defense manufacturing environment.
Must hold current AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) certification.
Must hold valid NDT Level II certifications in Dye Penetrant (PT) and Magnetic Particle (MT) per SNT-TC-1A, NAS-410, or equivalent standard.
Demonstrated experience with WPS, PQR, and Welder Qualification processes.
Performing and documenting weld inspections to MIL-STD-3040A, AWS D1.1 and D1.2 standards.
Developing inspection maps and inspection plans from engineering drawings and requirements.
Experience in supporting DOD or high-reliability programs is highly preferred.
Prior hands-on welding experience or fabrication background is a plus.
Experience performing AS9102 First Article Inspections.
Experience in reviewing Receiving Inspection documentation.
Experience working in Business Operations Systems such as CostPoint, Manufacturing Execution Systems, and Configuration Management Systems.
Physical Description
Employees in these positions will work in an assembly, manufacturing, and production environment, as well as in equipment assembly areas using technical and electronic testing equipment, including specialized software. They will collaborate with various personnel in a manufacturing or testing setting, attend meetings, contribute to team efforts, deliver timely results, produce reports, and communicate information effectively. Telework may be included.
In specialized laboratory or testing environments, employees will use electronic testing equipment, complex systems, and computer software. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, protective footwear, and lab coats may be required. Employees may be responsible for lifting, moving, testing, and assembling equipment of various weights and utilizing a variety of electronic testing tools.
