Asphalt Laborer

As an Asphalt Laborer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operations of our paving projects. This person will have multiple opportunities to learn several skilled trades and contribute in a meaningful way to their team. Your primary responsibilities will include performing assigned tasks, completing general duties assigned by the Foreman or Leadman, prioritizing safety, and contributing to the overall quality of our work. We are looking for someone who is proactive, reliable, and committed to the success of our crew.
What You Will Do
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment on the jobsite.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of safe and unsafe locations on the jobsite.
- Perform regular maintenance, including cleaning, of all hand tools such as rakes, lutes, shovels, and spray cans. Report any unsafe equipment to the foreman for further action.
- Conduct pre-start and routine maintenance on motorized hand tools, such as pavement saws and vibratory plates.
- Identify and address any issues related to the quality of the pavement.
- Sweep and clean the area in front of the paver to ensure a smooth operation.
- Assist in building a launchpad for the paver at the beginning of each pull.
- Support the screed operator as needed.
- Remove excess material from the end gate using shovels.
- Retrieve daily tools from the truck and ensure they are available on the jobsite at the start of the shift.
- Return daily tools to the appropriate storage location at the end of the shift.
General Tasks May Include, But Are Not Limited To
- Working as a Flagger to direct motorists away from the work zone.
- Transporting water to the rollers, power broom, and plate compactor.
- Setting up and maintaining erosion control measures.
- Loading and unloading materials.
- Shoveling dirt, gravel, and asphalt.
- Setting up and maintaining traffic control aids.
What you will need: (Minimum requirements)
- Previous experience in the paving industry or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions.
- Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks and responsibilities.
