Job Title: Maintenance Technician / Mechanic Job Description
This role is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and troubleshooting of a facility’s equipment, machinery, and physical structures. The Maintenance Technician ensures operations run safely and efficiently by shifting from reactive repairs to proactive preventive maintenance, while supporting overall facility reliability and performance.
Responsibilities- Perform preventive maintenance by conducting routine inspections, cleaning and lubricating machinery, and replacing filters, lightbulbs, and other consumable components to reduce the risk of equipment failure.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical issues on a wide range of industrial equipment, ensuring that machinery operates safely and efficiently.
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical problems, including identifying faults, replacing components, and restoring systems to proper working order.
- Identify and repair hydraulic and pneumatic system issues, including leaks, pressure problems, and component failures.
- Handle general facility upkeep and repairs, including plumbing, carpentry, painting, drywall work, and masonry to maintain a safe and functional environment.
- Use hand and power tools, test equipment, and measuring devices to carry out maintenance, repairs, and installations accurately.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and complex schematics to plan and execute maintenance and repair tasks correctly.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all maintenance activities, including work orders, material usage, and labor hours, often using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Follow and enforce OSHA safety standards and internal safety policies, including consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.
- Manage hazardous waste disposal in compliance with regulations and company procedures to protect people and the environment.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors, colleagues, and other stakeholders to report issues, provide status updates, and coordinate repairs with minimal disruption to operations.
- Prioritize work effectively by balancing urgent repairs with scheduled preventive maintenance tasks to maximize equipment uptime.
- Identify root causes of equipment failures and recommend long-term solutions to prevent recurrence, rather than addressing only immediate symptoms.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Technical certifications or an Associate’s degree in Building Maintenance Technology are preferred.
- Proficiency in mechanical maintenance and repair of industrial equipment and facility systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and components.
- Experience working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Skilled in using hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and complex schematics.
- Capability to maintain accurate records in a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Strong analytical thinking skills with the ability to identify root causes of failures.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Solid time management skills to balance urgent issues with scheduled maintenance work.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in cramped spaces or adverse weather conditions.
- Technical certifications related to maintenance, mechanics, or building systems.
- Associate’s degree in Building Maintenance Technology or a related technical field.
- Experience performing facility upkeep such as plumbing, carpentry, painting, drywall, and masonry.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and industrial safety best practices.
- Experience using CMMS or other maintenance tracking software.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team.

Work EnvironmentThis position operates in an industrial setting, working directly on production and facility equipment. The role involves regular exposure to machinery, noise, and varying temperatures, and may require work in cramped spaces or outdoors in adverse weather conditions. Team members use a variety of hand and power tools, as well as CMMS software, to complete their tasks. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required and provided, and the environment emphasizes adherence to OSHA and company safety standards at all times.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Calvert, AL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
