Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A school in Alabaster, AL is seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to provide essential munication support for a diverse student population. This contract position is ideal for an experienced interpreter dedicated to fostering an inclusive educational environment at the high school level.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate effective munication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and staff by interpreting sign language during classes, meetings, and school events
- Ensure accurate and clear interpretation of academic content and social interactions
- Collaborate closely with teachers, counselors, and other school personnel to support student participation and learning
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards of interpreting in educational settings
Desired Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong interpreting skills
- Previous experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in an educational environment preferred
- Ability to interpret a wide range of subjects and maintain professionalism at all times
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certification or training in sign language interpreting is a plus
