Torch Technologies is seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer / Backend Developer with expertise in microservices architecture, API design (REST/gRPC), and containerized application development using modern programming languages and tools such as Go, Java, Python, and Docker.
This role involves the design, development, and analysis of complex backend systems for high-performance, scalable, and resilient cloud-native applications. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware and DevOps engineers, to ensure seamless system integration and software delivery.

As a Software Engineer/Backend Developer your duties will include the following, but are not limited to:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend systems using modern microservices architectures.
• Develop and maintain RESTful and gRPC APIs that power web and mobile applications.
• Analyze and solve complex software challenges in distributed systems environments.
• Collaborate with hardware engineering teams to resolve system-level integration and compatibility issues.
• Contribute to system modeling, simulation, and performance analysis.
• Write clean, well-documented, and testable code.
• Participate in code reviews and provide mentorship to junior developers as needed.
• Contribute inputs for documentation of new or existing systems and software components.

• Support the full software development lifecycle — from concept and design to testing, deployment, and maintenance.

Required Qualifications:

• US Citizenship.
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
• Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in software design and backend system development.
• Clearance Requirements: Active or eligible for DoD Security Clearance.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, and agile environment.
• Strong analytical and debugging skills.
• Effective communication and teamwork abilities.

Technical Skills & Experience:

• P rogramming Languages:
  • Proficient in Go (Golang), Java, and Python.
• API Development:
  • Strong experience in designing and implementing RESTful APIs and gRPC services.
  • Understanding of API security, versioning, and documentation best practices.
• Microservices Architecture:
  • Experience designing and developing microservices for cloud-native environments.
• Containerization & Deployment:
  • Proficient in Docker and familiarity with container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes is a plus).
• Systems Integration:
  • Experience collaborating with hardware engineers and understanding hardware/software interaction is preferred.
• Version Control & CI/CD:
  • Experience with Git, and knowledge of CI/CD tools and processes.
• Additional Considerations:
  • Experience with message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ), databases (SQL/NoSQL), and observability tools is a plus.
