Our growing rheumatology practice is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Infusion Medical Assistant to join our team. This role combines traditional medical assistant responsibilities with specialized infusion support, providing high-quality care to patients receiving biologic infusion therapies for rheumatologic conditions.
The ideal candidate is patient-focused, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced specialty environment. This individual will support providers, nursing staff, and infusion operations while ensuring a safe, efficient, and positive patient experience throughout the treatment process.
Essential Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Clinical Support:
- Greet patients, verify demographics, and assist with patient intake.
- Obtain and document vital signs, pain assessments, medication histories, and other clinical information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Prepare exam rooms and infusion treatment areas prior to patient appointments.
- Administer intramuscular injections and assist with other clinical procedures within scope of practice.
- Assist providers and clinical staff with patient care needs and treatment coordination.
- Educate patients regarding treatment plans, medications, injection techniques, and follow-up instructions.
Infusion Suite Responsibilities:
- Prepare infusion space, equipment, and supplies for scheduled treatments.
- Assist with infusion setup and IV preparation support as permitted within scope of practice.
- Monitor patients during infusion treatments and promptly communicate any adverse reactions or patient concerns to nursing staff and providers.
- Ensure patient comfort and provide exceptional support throughout the infusion process.
- Maintain accurate treatment documentation and update patient records throughout therapy visits.
- Coordinate patient flow within the infusion suite to support efficient operations.
Care Coordination & Administrative Duties:
- Coordinate laboratory orders, imaging requests, and other provider-directed testing.
- Assist with specialty medication workflows, including prior authorizations and treatment scheduling.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and support coding requirements as directed.
- Support patient scheduling, appointment management, and ongoing care coordination.
Compliance & Inventory Management:
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant clinical and infusion environment.
- Follow all infection control, safety, OSHA, HIPAA, and clinic policies and procedures.
- Monitor inventory levels of infusion medications, supplies, and clinical materials; communicate shortages to leadership.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain regulatory compliance standards.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Current CMA, RMA, or CCMA certification preferred.
- Current BLS certification preferred.
- Previous experience as a Medical Assistant in a specialty or outpatient clinic preferred.
- Experience in infusion therapy, rheumatology, gastroenterology, oncology, immunology, or other specialty infusion settings strongly preferred.
- Experience working with Electronic Medical Record (EMR/EHR) systems required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, clinical documentation, and patient care procedures.
- Familiarity with specialty medication prior authorizations and biologic therapies preferred.
