JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Accountant
CLASSIFICATION: Administrative Specialist V
SALARY RANGE: $41,000.00 - $62,386.00
SUPERVISOR: Chief Financial Officer
DEFINITION:
This position is responsible for coordinating diverse phases of accounting procedures while providing oversight and support to accounting clerks and administrative staff. The Accountant assists in maintaining fiscal integrity, ensuring compliance with financial procedures, supporting procurement processes, and promoting consistent administrative and financial practices across programs.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Accounting Responsibilities
Responsible for data input and producing related information reports from the accounting system, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and inventory.
Responsible for recording entries to the general ledger system.
Assist in reconciliation of general ledger accounts and bank statements.
Assist with contract billing and related reporting.
Assist in the analysis of income and expenses as required.
Assist in external financial reporting where needed.
Assist with internal and external audits and financial reviews.
Create and maintain worksheets used for financial reports and analysis.
Supervision and Fiscal Support
Provide guidance, oversight, and support to accounting clerks in the performance of daily accounting functions.
Review accounting documentation and financial entries for accuracy and compliance with established procedures.
Assist in coordinating workload distribution among accounting support staff.
Procurement and Administrative Coordination
Assist with procurement coordination for supplies, furniture, and operational resources across programs in collaboration with Fiscal Affairs.
Ensure purchasing activities follow established fiscal policies, budget guidelines, and procurement procedures.
Provide support and guidance to Office Managers regarding procurement processes and financial documentation.
Administrative and Operational Support
Assist in monitoring consumer financial receivables, including rent collections, to ensure appropriate documentation and reporting.
Cross-train on departmental duties to provide support as needed.
Assist with creating and maintaining departmental procedures and financial documentation.
Perform other fiscal duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer.
REQUIREMENTS:
Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting and general financial management.
Proficiency in accounting principles and practices.
Knowledge in the use of a computer and general office programs.
Knowledge in the use of spreadsheets, database, and other accounting software.
Ability to establish, develop, and maintain positive, effective working relationships with staff, governmental agencies, and other community organizations.
Ability to readily learn required procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree in accounting, business, or related field with specific course work and competence in accounting, plus three years of progressive experience involving all facets of accounting procedures or a master's degree, in a related field, plus 1 year of related experience. Experience with governmental accounting system preferred.
