Job Description
As a Machinist, you will set up and operate conventional lathes, vertical and horizontal boring mills, portable machining equipment, CNC lathes, and vertical mills machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. Your responsibilities will include reading blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures, dismantling machinery or equipment using appropriate tools, and working within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
Responsibilities
- Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
- Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or work-piece as guides for subsequent machining.
- Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines to machine parts as required.
- Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media according to established guidelines and procedures.
- Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust machine as required.
- Verify conformance of finished workpieces to specifications using measuring and inspection tools.
- Set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on machines as required.
- Align machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, and lasers.
- Confer with engineers, production personnel, maintenance technicians, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with co-workers and management.
- Continue to learn machinist and maintenance knowledge and use tools to identify and assist with continuous improvement.
- Ensure that safe work practices are followed and adhered to.
- Proficiency in operating lathes, mills, and machining centers.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematic drawings.
- Experience with calipers, micrometers, and inspection tools.
- Knowledge of machine shop practices and tooling.
- 3-5 years of experience in a conventional type machining environment and/or roll grinding.
- Ability to perform mechanical, electrical, or instrument work.
- Capability to perform basic arithmetic functions and interpret drawings, graphs, blueprints, and safety regulations.
- High school education or equivalent; a technical degree in a related field or Journeyman’s card is preferred.

Work Environment
The work environment is a heavy industrial setting without climate control, meaning conditions can be very hot in summer and very cold in winter. The facility is expansive, situated on hundreds of acres, and employees are assigned to specific departments. On-site, there is no jewelry permitted, and it is a tobacco-free environment. Shifts are 12 hours, with a 3-2-2 schedule for night shifts from 6:30 PM to 6:30 AM. Employees must work at least one year on the night shift before having the opportunity to switch.

The pay range for this position is $58000.00 - $63000.00/yr.
