We are looking for one (1) hard-working, dedicated person to join our SDS Benchman | Hammerman team in Northport, AL. Come and grow with us!

Pay range starts at $17.50+/hour depending on experience.

What you will be doing:

• Inexperienced benchmen start by learning to work safely in the saw production environment
• Operate alternately more than one type of machine or tool such as hammers (up to 10 lbs.), stretcher rolls, plate leveling machines, gauge grinders and hammer grinders etc.
• Set-up and operate all available machine tools
• Perform progressive operations on work involving close tolerances or unusual requirements
• Skillfully uses hand tools and measuring instruments
• Perform complex operations in support of production operations under limited supervision
• Additional duties as assigned

What we are looking for:

• Mechanical aptitude
• Ability to accurately use hammer, level, gauges, micrometers and calipers
• 2+ years manufacturing production experience
• High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
• Vocational trade school or equivalent program a plus
• Familiarity with working properties of various materials to match customer requirements
• Demonstrated lean techniques and ability to meet TAKT times
• Ability to work as part of a team, with behavior that upholds company values and standards
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Promote safety in the workplace and adhere to the safety standards of the company
• Ability to lift to 50 lbs. frequently. Ability to stand at a minimum of 8 hours per shift
• Ability to work overtime when needed
