Job Summary:
The EHS Specialist will analyze work environments and exercise independent judgment in the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs. The role ensures compliance with applicable federal, state (Alabama), and local regulations, mitigates risk, and supports business operations through inspections, training oversight, incident investigations, and sustainability initiatives.
What You'll Do:
- Conducts injury, incident, spill, and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis, and develops corrective action recommendations in a timely manner.
- Conducts periodic facility safety assessments and audits to evaluate compliance with high-risk EHS programs, including but not limited to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, working at heights, hot work permits, and hazardous materials management.
- Oversees safety tag programs and internal EHS audits, including tracking, analyzing, and validating corrective actions.
- Schedules and facilitates sustainability tours with departmental leadership and develops corrective action plans based on observed risks and opportunities.
- Develops, implements, and continuously improves plant-level safety and environmental programs in alignment with regulatory and corporate standards.
- Tracks, analyzes, and reports EHS performance metrics and trends, including waste, water, and energy usage, to plant leadership and corporate stakeholders.
- Leads waste reduction initiatives to support achievement of sustainability KPIs, including landfill diversion targets.
- Designs and enhances plant-wide recycling and composting strategies.
- Ensures safety and environmental training programs are compliant, effective, and completed for employees and contractors; provides oversight of OSHA-required training and reporting.
- Serves as a point of contact for employees regarding safety rules, regulatory requirements, and risk mitigation practices, exercising discretion in resolving issues and escalating concerns as appropriate.
- Oversees PPE and first aid program administration, including compliance monitoring, inventory standards, and coordination of replenishment to meet regulatory and company requirements.
- Oversees contractor safety compliance, including review of contractor schedules, evaluation of adherence to company EHS policies, and escalation of non-compliance issues.
- Coordinates and monitors updates to fire suppression systems, emergency doors, eyewash stations, and first aid cabinets to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and approved safety standards.
What we need from you:
- Associates in a related field required; Bachelors preferred
- Minimum of 1-2 years of safety and/or EHS experience in a manufacturing plant environment required.
- Ability to learn and effectively use EHS management systems, LMS platforms, and standard business software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Demonstrated problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.
- Highly motivated and effective in a fast-paced environment.
- Meets deadlines, works independently, and maintains accountability and attendance.
- Demonstrates integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Proactively identifies risks and opportunities and drives projects to completion.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
- May be required to be in a variety of environments internally and must follow all safety regulations and wear all proper safety equipment.
- Must be capable of extensive walking, standing (sometimes for long periods), climbing ladders/scaffolding, bending, stooping, kneeling, and twisting. Must be wiling to work in various environments, as well as in hot/cold/loud conditions, around hazardous materials, and in confined spaces or heights. Be able to lift at least 50lbs.
