Job Summary
The Field Engineer (Mechanical / Piping / Instrument) is responsible for supporting field engineering activities including asset verification, drawing updates, and coordination with drafting and data control teams. The role requires working with engineering drawings, verifying plant equipment and piping, and ensuring engineering documentation accuracy. This position requires site work, collaboration with customers and internal teams, and experience in refinery or chemical plant environments.
Job Description
- Perform field engineering activities within Mechanical, Piping, and Instrumentation domains
- Read and interpret engineering drawings including P&IDs, Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Site Plans, Location Layouts, Single Line Diagrams, Piping Layouts, Piping Plans, and Vendor Drawings
- Locate equipment and instruments at site using engineering drawings such as Location Layouts, Plot Plans, PFDs, and P&IDs
- Conduct field walkdowns and physical asset verification of plant equipment and piping
- Collect asset manufacturer plate details including Manufacturer Name, Model Number, and Serial/Part Number
- Prepare redlines and as-built drawings including P&IDs, Location Layouts, Vendor Drawings, and Specification Sheets
- Perform quality checks to verify changes and updates in engineering drawings
- Coordinate with data control and drafting teams at offsite locations to update drawings and asset register
- Coordinate with drafting team for implementing drawing updates and revisions
- Work with customers to understand and support project requirements
- Support data and document management activities, including document uploading and downloading within EDMS/EDW systems
- Represent engineering information and respond to questions during meetings
Skills Required
- 5–7 years of experience in Mechanical, Piping, and Instrumentation domains
- Minimum 3 years of field walkdown or field work experience
- Experience working in refinery or chemical plant environments preferred
- Knowledge of field instruments, control valves, equipment, and valves
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings and plant documentation
- Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, SharePoint, and Aconex
- Knowledge of importing and exporting data using MS Excel and MS Access database
- Familiarity with EDMS/EDW systems and document/data management processes
- Ability to work at site and remote locations
- Good oral and written English communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment
Education/Training/Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Instrumentation Engineering
- Valid TWIC Card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) required
Additional Requirements
- Work Schedule: 40–50 hours per week
Pay Rate/Salary
- Pay Rate $55/ hr (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
