About the Role:
The Service Porter plays a vital role in maintaining the smooth operation and presentation of a service facility, primarily focusing on the transportation and preparation of vehicles for service or delivery. This position ensures that vehicles are moved safely and efficiently between customer areas, service bays, and parking locations, contributing to an organized and customer-friendly environment. The Service Porter supports the service team by performing cleaning, fueling, and basic maintenance tasks to prepare vehicles for customer pickup or further service. Attention to detail and a proactive approach are essential, as the role directly impacts customer satisfaction and the overall efficiency of the service department. Ultimately, the Service Porter helps create a positive first and last impression for customers by ensuring vehicles are handled with care and the service area remains orderly and presentable.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to operate vehicles safely in various conditions and environments.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle handling and safety procedures.
- Physical ability to perform tasks that require standing, walking, and lifting for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail and reliability.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a service porter or similar automotive support role.
- Familiarity with automotive service operations and terminology.
- Customer service experience to effectively interact with clients and team members.
- Ability to operate service equipment such as fuel pumps and cleaning tools.
- Certification in basic vehicle maintenance or safety training.
Responsibilities:
- Safely transport vehicles between customer drop-off points, service bays, and designated parking areas.
- Perform routine cleaning tasks such as washing, vacuuming, and wiping down vehicles to maintain a high standard of presentation.
- Refuel vehicles and check fluid levels to ensure readiness for service or customer delivery.
- Assist service technicians by moving vehicles as needed and preparing them for inspection or repair.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the service lot and surrounding areas to promote a professional environment.
- Report any vehicle damage or operational issues promptly to the service management team.
- Support the service department with miscellaneous tasks to facilitate efficient workflow and customer service.
Skills:
The Service Porter utilizes strong driving skills daily to maneuver vehicles safely within the service facility and customer areas, ensuring no damage occurs during transport. Attention to detail is critical when cleaning and preparing vehicles, as this directly affects customer satisfaction and the dealership’s reputation. Effective communication skills are used to coordinate with service technicians and management, reporting any issues or special instructions promptly. Physical stamina and organizational skills help the Service Porter maintain a clean and orderly work environment, which supports efficient service operations.
