Waypoint’s client is seeking an Advanced Systems Engineer to provide high-level technical expertise in support of the Missile Defense System (MDS). This role focuses on evaluating current and future missile defense architectures, assessing adversary capabilities, and recommending strategies and improvements that ensure the Nation’s defenses remain ahead of evolving ballistic, hypersonic, and cruise missile threats. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical knowledge of MDS with strong systems engineering skills and the ability to work across a diverse set of government, military, and international stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

• Provide expert analysis of adversary missile defense-related capabilities, systems engineering, and evaluation activities.
• Remain current on intelligence updates regarding emerging threat systems that could impact missile defense architectures.
• Assess the adequacy of the MDS—including ballistic, hypersonic, and cruise missile defense—to counter evolving threats; recommend improvements and alternate strategies for affordable and technically advanced systems.
• Evaluate and adapt Allied Missile Defense systems for integration with U.S. missile defense to strengthen Unified Command Theaters.
• Serve as a consulting resource for MDS development, facilitating collaboration with Services, Combatant Commands, and other stakeholders.
• Develop technical recommendations and process improvements in coordination with FFRDCs, UARCs, OGAs, and other partners.
• Support MDA architecture evolution strategies by analyzing results of Analysis of Alternatives (AoA) and other high-level assessments.
• Contribute to feasibility assessments, demonstrations, and early milestone tests by analyzing results and validating architecture assumptions.

Required:

• Master’s degree in a STEM field and 12+ years of relevant experience.
• Active Secret clearance.
• Proven experience with missile defense systems and architectures.
• Ability to work independently and accomplish responsibilities with minimal guidance.

Desired:

• Detailed knowledge of MDS elements and Command and Control networks, particularly C2BMC and LINK 16.
• Knowledge of hypersonic weapons capabilities and limitations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis on PowerPoint.
• Experience working with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) or allied nation FMS programs such as THAAD.
• Background in early warning systems and missile defense space systems.
• Military or joint services/Combatant Command experience.
• Logistics support experience for missile defense programs.
