Director of Accounting

Description We are looking for an experienced Director of Accounting to oversee financial operations and ensure compliance with federal funding guidelines. This Contract-to-Permanent position is ideal for a candidate with expertise in fund accounting operations and strong leadership skills. The role is based in Opelika, Alabama, and requires a highly detail-oriented individual committed to excellence in financial management. Responsibilities: - Manage the month-end close process to ensure financial records are accurate and timely. - Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial statements, ensuring compliance with regulatory and organizational standards. - Lead financial reporting efforts, including audits and performance reviews. - Implement and maintain accounting procedures, including the use of tools like Blackline for reconciliation. - Ensure compliance with federal funding requirements related to housing authority operations. - Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and execute financial strategies. - Supervise and mentor accounting staff to foster a high-performing team. - Coordinate external audits and address any findings effectively. - Monitor and improve internal controls to safeguard organizational assets and data integrity. - Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic planning. Requirements - CPA certification is preferred. - Proven experience in managing month-end close processes and financial reporting. - Proficiency with Blackline or similar financial reconciliation tools. - Strong knowledge of financial statement audits and regulatory compliance. - Exceptional leadership and communication skills. - Ability to analyze complex financial data and provide actionable insights. - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
