Location: Birmingham, Alabama (Midtown) (Hybrid: Onsite Mon-Fri, Remote Fri)
Job Type: Contract-to-Hire (6-12 months)
Pay Rate: $53-$73/hour
Job Description:
The P6 Scheduler is responsible for developing, maintaining, and analyzing project schedules to ensure timely and efficient execution of construction projects. The role involves close collaboration with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to manage milestones, track progress, identify risks, and propose recovery plans when delays occur. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of Primavera P6 and construction sequencing, with the ability to communicate complex schedule data clearly to diverse audiences.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Planning: Establish and maintain the overall milestone schedule, ensuring milestone definitions are clearly written and agreed upon by all stakeholders.
Scheduling: Develop detailed Primavera P6 schedules aligned with project milestones and execution plans.
Logic & Constraints: Determine realistic schedule logic, sequencing, and constraints based on discussions with task owners and project teams.
Critical Path Management: Identify and evaluate critical and near-critical path activities, facilitating regular review sessions to ensure schedule alignment.
Progress Tracking: Assess actual site progress through inspections and validate contractor-reported updates and performance metrics.
Schedule Analysis: Prepare schedule reports, analyze key indicators, and identify gaps, risks, or trends that could affect project delivery.
Change Management: Detect schedule variances and proactively coordinate with stakeholders to address changes or mitigate impacts.
Stakeholder Communication: Conduct schedule review meetings, communicate project status updates, and support the resolution of schedule delays or negative float issues.
Risk Mitigation: Recommend corrective actions and develop recovery or “what-if” schedules when delays or scope changes are anticipated.
Integration: Coordinate schedules across multiple projects to ensure alignment and interdependency management within program-level timelines.
Reporting: Consolidate and present schedule performance reports to program and senior management, ensuring transparency and accuracy.
Lessons Learned: Document and share lessons learned to improve future scheduling practices and project outcomes.
Qualifications Required:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience using Primavera P6 for medium to large-scale construction projects.
Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of project scheduling, construction sequencing, and logic throughout the full project life cycle.
Sector Knowledge: Prior experience in electric utility or infrastructure project scheduling is preferred.
Analytical Skills: Proven ability to assess schedule performance, identify risks, and recommend data-driven corrective actions.
Communication: Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills for engaging with clients, contractors, and management.
