Senior Software Safety Engineer - Active Secret Clearance

Clearance : Active Interim Secret required, with ability to obtain and maintain

Secret Work Arrangement : On-Site

Our Client is seeking a Senior Software Safety Engineer to support advanced DoD weapons systems under the Precision Fires (PF) portfolio. This position is critical for the execution of risk and hazard analyses on integrated systems forming part of complex, safetycritical solutions for our defense customers. You will provide oversight across a portfolio of engineering developments, guiding teams to build evidence-based safety cases and ensuring compliance with rigorous engineering processes. This position is based in Huntsville, AL.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop software safety targets and define software safety requirements aligned to program and product objectives.
• Execute hazard analyses to support identification and documentation of software safety requirements in accordance with program standards.
• Prepare and maintain specific application, generic application, and generic product safety cases.
• Coordinate and produce design safety documentation, including safety cases and supporting artifacts required for milestone approvals.
• Conduct and facilitate safety studies such as Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) with engineering groups.
• Develop and maintain a comprehensive Hazard Tracking Log to ensure traceability and closure of safety items.
• Document and effectively communicate technical data and safety findings to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  
  

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Education & Experience : Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Engineering, Computer Science, or related) with at least 14 years of relevant experience. In lieu of a degree, an additional 6 years of experience (totaling 20 years) may be considered.
• Security Clearance : Active Interim Secret clearance is required at time of hire, with the ability to obtain and maintain a full Secret clearance.

• Familiarity with: Software safety engineering principles and best practices. Design, test, and analysis tools and systems used in safety engineering. Hazard Analysis methodologies per MIL-STD-882E. The Joint Software Systems Safety Engineering Handbook (JSSEH).

Benefits

Salary: $135,000/yr. -$145,000/yr.
