Railcar Repair Technician/Welder
Automation Personnel Services is seeking a Railcar Repair Technician/Welder for a company based in Calera, AL. In this role, you will have the opportunity to build a long-term career working hands-on with freight rail equipment while contributing to the safe and efficient movement of goods across the rail industry. This position offers steady work, a team-oriented environment, and the chance to expand your mechanical skills in a specialized industrial field.

Please note: While welding skills are required, most of the work in this role focuses on mechanical inspection, repair, and maintenance.

Schedule and Hours
Monday through Friday, Day Shift
Overtime may be available depending on workload

Railcar Repair Technician/Welder Duties and Responsibilities

1. Perform mechanical inspections, maintenance, and repairs on freight railcars in accordance with AAR and FRA regulations.
2. Diagnose mechanical issues and repair or replace components, including brake systems, couplers, draft systems, railcar doors, and structural components.
3. Complete minor welding and torch cutting tasks as needed for repair work.
4. Use hand tools, pneumatic equipment, and heavy shop tools to complete repair and maintenance tasks safely and efficiently.
5. Follow all shop safety rules and procedures, maintaining a clean and organized work area.
6. Work collaboratively with technicians and supervisors to complete railcar repairs efficiently and to quality standards.
7. Assist with heavy repair projects and specialty maintenance tasks as assigned.

Railcar Repair Technician/Welder Qualifications and Requirements

1. Previous railcar mechanical experience preferred, but candidates with industrial, mechanical, heavy equipment, or automotive repair experience will be considered.
2. Basic welding skills required (must pass weld test and provide personal welding gear).
3. Ability to read a tape measure to 1/16 inch accurately.
4. Ability to read and follow repair specifications, work orders, and regulatory procedures.
5. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
6. Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in both outdoor rail yard and shop environments.
7. Commitment to workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
