**Job Description**
You will be a core technical leader spanning an organization of 200 engineers and program managers, taking an active role in raising the bar for engineering excellence, evolving standard practices and procedures, and suggesting and justifying architectural and product direction.
You will deliver solutions by diving deep into mature and newer architectures alike, whilst thinking and collaborating broadly across the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure teams. You uncover issues in established systems and innovate from within. You are the go-to consultant within the organization for senior engineers and the first point of contact for architectural leadership from partners.
You currently are an acknowledged expert within your company and/or the industry nationally and internationally on cloud architectures and services. You provide engineering leadership across operational, deep architectural and new products, processes, and techniques alike, and act as the primary consultant on large projects that effect the organization's long-term objectives and strategy.
**Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI):**
The Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is cloud infrastructure built for enterprises. OCI's products and services provide a rock-solid platform that customers can bet their critical businesses on. OCI starts with the core offerings of Autonomous Database, Compute, Storage, and Networking, purpose-built services for Security, Streaming, Notifications, Big Data, Big Compute, and Migration. These services operate at huge scale, globally distributed, multi-tenant cloud environment. Team OCI is composed of senior cloud experts, focused on building the most advanced cloud technologies to meet the highly demanding workloads and migrations for enterprise customers.
**Compute Engineering:**
At the heart of OCI is the large-scale distributed infrastructure to provide compute CPU and GPU bare metal and virtual machine capacity to our customers. We are the group that ingests CPU/GPU servers as they land in the data centers, provision and manage the entire lifecycle for the critical workloads that our customers run. OCI's customers rely on OCI compute to manage the health, availability, reliability, lifecycle and security posture of our server systems as well as on the availability, correctness and performance of our APIs.
**Responsibilities**
We're looking for an architect with expertise and passion in solving difficult problems at the cloud infrastructure level. You would dig deep into the existing systems, unearth step-level improvements and issues, innovate from within and transform and create new architectures. You would be responsible to provide technical guidance and mentorship across the lifecycle of CPU/GPU server systems, from manufacturing and validation including firmware and software to automation for server repair in data centers, secure provisioning as well as host state management. You would be expected to collaborate with key stakeholders across OCI to prototype, evangelize and secure buy-for your solution. In addition, you will provide technical guidance and oversight across the compute organization in the design and delivery of OCI wide initiatives at the SVP level.
OCI innovates with new server configurations that need to be provisioned compliantly and securely. Ensuring that we deliver server capacity that has gone through validation to identify hardware, firmware, driver, operating system problems, as well as maintaining fleet health through monitoring and repair orchestration is paramount to our business. We also run one of OCI's differentiated offerings - Bare Metal Compute. You will use your experience in building large scale systems to help build the next generation of compute services to manage host lifecycle, build correct data models at the physical and logical layer, perform automated repair and scale our services.
With your outstanding technical, research and analytical capabilities and demonstrated ability to get the right things done quickly and effectively to dig deep, innovate within well-established systems and define new architectures alike, you'll partner with the existing leaders in the organization to take these critical services to the next level of scale. Making these deep architectural changes calls for an outstanding builder, mentor, and technical leader with an established industry track record of success in leading large cloud scale projects.
**Specific responsibilities include:**
+ Provide technical leadership in the team for an organization of approximately 200 engineers and program managers.
+ Take responsibility for strategic architectures, innovative redesign and improvements for managing CPU and GPU server capacity, availability and reliability, as well as enhancing OCI Compute foundational services.
+ Lead by example, influence, and empowerment. Foster a growth mindset and a culture of teamwork, high expectations, ownership, and technical excellence within the team.
+ Ensure that everything we do is kept at a high operational bar, with specific focus on availability and resiliency.
+ Design and build customer-facing cloud services that are scalable, reliable, performant and deliver significant business impact.
+ Regular communication with C-level executives, including technology reviews, and develop senior-level customer & partner relationships as required.
**PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE**
+ Exceptional communication skills, technically fearless and a strong product sense with the ability to seek and absorb business context, lead, and develop engineering culture, and exhibit good judgement exercised through developed critical thinking.
+ Knowledge or experience in cloud infrastructures, host-level design, and the software and services that support these.
+ 12+ years' experience delivering and operating large scale, highly available distributed systems.
+ Strong knowledge of C, C++ or Java, and experience with scripting languages such as Python, Perl, etc.
+ Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems fundamentals.

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $136,600 to $338,500 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
