What We Look For In an Adult ESL/ELL Tutor

Emphasizes practical life‑skills English and connects language learning to employment advancement, citizenship preparation, and community engagement.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with adult ESL curricula and common challenges such as varying first‑language literacy levels, limited study time due to work schedules, and age‑related learning differences. Adapts instruction using real‑world materials like job applications and medical forms, visual supports, and task‑based activities to support adult learners from beginning literacy through advanced professional English proficiency.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
