LBYD was founded in 1973 with the incorporation of E. Glenn Bishop & Associates. In 1978, with the merger of the structural engineering firm Lane & Hodnett Structural Engineers, the firm became Lane/Bishop/Hodnett, Inc. In 1987, the firm became LaneBishopYorkDelahay Inc., which is known today as LBYD Engineers. In 2001, LBYD began offering civil engineering services. With the addition of the civil department and the continued commitment of our structural department, LBYD has experienced growth at a phenomenal rate. We continue to pursue growth opportunities evidenced by opening more branch offices throughout the Southeast region.
POSITION PURPOSE:
The Structural Intern works in a collaborative team environment under the supervision of more senior engineers. The SI performs routine engineering assignments requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles to complete project requirements. They are assigned specific tasks on a project, and are expected to use their education, intelligence, and critical thinking to perform certain job responsibilities. The SI will learn the different aspects of a project and learn how to complete the different tasks required to assemble a set of plans.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform structural design calculations, interpreting building codes
- Documenting all project communications
- Instructing drafters how to turn designs into completed structural drawings
- Assist in structural/civil engineering evaluations, reports, analyses and designs for existing and new facilities and other related opportunities
- Prepare various permit applications and assist with calculations and report writing.
- Participate in site visits
- Review of contractor's submittals.
- Review shop drawing submittals and request for information.
- Research and identify governing criteria, codes, guides, and best practices
- Work under the supervision of project managers, senior structural designers, and other senior-level team members
- May be asked to travel to out of town assignments
- Any other assigned duties

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- Working toward a bachelor's degree in Structural /Civil Engineering or related undergraduate degree required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Basic understanding of Revit
- Proficient use of Engineering Design Software
- Basic knowledge of engineering design principles and methods
- Basic knowledge of construction and constructability practices and principles
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body, involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work generally conducted indoors in an office setting with occasional travel to project sites, but may serve as a Field Engineer during construction.
