Description:

The UH -1, TH-1, UH60 Composite Technician is responsible for the inspection, repair, fabrication, and installation of composite and bonded structures on helicopters. This role ensures aircraft structural integrity, airworthiness, and compliance with OEM manuals, military technical orders, and applicable aviation regulations. The technician performs advanced composite repairs on flight-critical and non-flight-critical components in support of maintenance, overhaul, and sustainment operations.

Composite Repair & Fabrication

  • Perform structural composite repairs on aircraft components, including:
  • Fairings, cowlings, panels, and access doors
  • Radomes, ducts, and bonded assemblies
  • Fabricate composite parts using fiberglass, carbon fiber, Kevlar, and honeycomb core materials
  • Conduct wet lay-ups, vacuum bagging, resin infusion, curing, trimming, and finishing
  • Honeycomb panel overhauls

Inspection & Damage Assessment

  • Inspect composite structures for damage such as delamination, cracks, impact damage, and heat damage
  • Perform tap testing, visual inspections, and dimensional checks
  • Determine repair classification and scope in accordance with maintenance manuals

Technical Compliance

  • Follow approved maintenance manuals, structural repair manuals (SRM), SOPs, and engineering dispositions
  • Ensure all repairs meet OEM, military, and airworthiness requirements
  • Accurately document all maintenance actions in maintenance records or logbooks

Tooling, Materials & Shop Practices

  • Mix, handle, and apply resins, adhesives, sealants, and composite materials properly
  • Utilize specialized tools such as vacuum pumps, ovens/autoclaves, hot bonders
  • Maintain clean work environments and comply with FOD prevention and safety standards

Quality & Safety

  • Ensure completed work passes quality inspections and functional checks
  • Adhere to environmental, health, and safety regulations, including PPE usage
  • Support audits, inspections, and corrective action processes

Workplace Safety:

  • Adhere to OSHA, FAA, and company-specific safety guidelines at all times.
  • Utilize proper PPE including gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, and respiratory protection when required.
  • Operate tools and equipment in accordance with safety protocols.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free areas.
  • Report any safety concerns, accidents, or near misses immediately

SOP/KPIs:

  • Follow all SOPs for structural repair, fabrication, and assembly tasks.
  • Ensure all work complies with company and regulatory standards.
  • Meet or exceed KPIs including:
  • Work order completion rate
  • Quality assurance pass rate
  • Rework frequency
  • Safety compliance metrics

Team Support :

  • Collaborate effectively with maintenance technicians, engineers, and inspectors.
  • Support project teams during helicopter refurbishment, modification, or heavy maintenance visits.
  • Assist and mentor junior technicians or apprentices when needed.
  • Communicate progress and potential issues clearly with supervisors and team leads.
  • Maintain best practices and a positive working environment with all parties at the worksite.
  • Coordinate with other departments to achieve outlined goals.
  • Respond to communications (e-mails, meeting requests, Teams messages, etc.) set by team members in a timely and friendly manner.
  • Learn SmartSheets project management software and take ownership of assigned projects.? Aid in the evolution of usage of this platform by spearheading best practices adoption.
Requirements:
  • Experience: 3+ years of hands - on composite repair experience, in aircraft sheet metal work, preferably on helicopters or rotary-wing aircraft.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required, A&P License preferred.
  • Direct experience with UH -1, TH-1, UH60 or similar military helicopters strongly preferred
  • Certifications: Completion of an FAA-approved Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) school or equivalent training preferred.
  • Legal: Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Working conditions

  • Indoor hangar environment with occasional outdoor work depending on project needs.
  • Exposure to noise, vibration, sharp tools, and metal particles—PPE required.
  • May be required to work overtime, weekends, or night shifts as project demands dictate.
  • Must pass drug screening, background checks, and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work in confined spaces
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable working at heights and on aircraft stands
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights or weekends if required

Essential Job Functions
