Machinist Apprentice

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate various machines, including mills, lathes, grinders, and shapers, to fabricate metallic parts.
• Study blueprints, sketches, and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces.
• Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions on materials as guides for subsequent machining.
• Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and materials on machines.
• Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, and coolant flow.
• Monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions and make necessary adjustments.
• Verify conformance of finished workpieces to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
• Fit and assemble parts into complete units using jigs, fixtures, and hand tools.
• Maintain dimensional logs and ensure compliance with DMC QC manuals.
• Collaborate with engineers, production personnel, and programmers to resolve machining or assembly issues.
• Maintain and clean machines, ensuring they are properly lubricated and in good working condition.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED equivalency.
• Basic math skills required; proficiency in shop math and strong mechanical aptitude preferred.
• Ability to operate various types of machinery safely.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work well with others.
• Openness to learning new skills and collaborating with team members.
