This is a high-level quality role requiring strong programming experience, blueprint interpretation, GD&T knowledge, and the ability to work closely with machining, engineering, and quality teams in a regulated manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Create, edit, validate, and optimize CMM programs for precision machined parts using customer drawings, CAD models, and engineering specifications.
- Program and operate CMM equipment for first article, in-process, and final inspection.
- Interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and 3D CAD models.
- Perform dimensional inspections on tight-tolerance CNC machined components.
- Analyze part geometry and inspection requirements to determine the most effective inspection approach.
- Generate and maintain inspection reports, documentation, and quality records.
- Support FAI (First Article Inspection) packages in accordance with AS9102 requirements.
- Review inspection results and communicate nonconformances to quality, engineering, and production teams.
- Troubleshoot CMM programs, fixturing, alignments, probe setups, and measurement issues.
- Collaborate with machinists, programmers, and engineers to resolve dimensional or process-related issues.
- Assist in root cause analysis and corrective action efforts related to quality issues.
- Ensure compliance with internal quality standards, customer requirements, and aerospace/defense regulations.
- Maintain calibration awareness and proper use of inspection equipment.
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to inspection methods, quality processes, and throughput.
- 3+ years of experience as a CMM Programmer in a precision machining environment.
- Experience programming CMMs for complex machined components, not just loading/running existing programs.
- Background in aerospace, defense, medical, or other tight-tolerance manufacturing environments.
- Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, and tolerance stack-ups.
- Experience with first article inspection, in-process inspection, and final inspection.
- Experience creating and maintaining inspection documentation and reports.
- Proficiency in programming CMMs using software such as PC-DMIS, MCOSMOS, Calypso, MODUS, or similar advanced CMM programming platforms.
- Experience with offline programming using CAD models.
- Ability to perform part alignments, probe qualification, stylus configuration, datum structure setup, feature construction, profile analysis, and true position evaluation.
- Strong knowledge of AS9102 First Article Inspection, GD&T per ASME Y14.5, tight-tolerance inspection practices, surface profile, positional tolerancing, concentricity/runout, and form measurement.
- Experience inspecting CNC milled parts, CNC turned parts, complex prismatic components, and multi-axis machined aerospace parts.
- Experience with additional inspection equipment is highly preferred, including height gauges, optical comparators, micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, surface plates, vision systems, and portable CMM/Faro arm.
- Experience in an AS9100 or NADCAP-supported manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with FAIR packages, control plans, and customer quality documentation.
- Experience supporting CNC machine shops producing parts for military, aerospace, defense, or space applications.
- Ability to review machining processes and provide feedback to improve inspectability and repeatability.
- Experience with ERP/MES or quality documentation systems.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Technical certification in metrology, quality, machining, or related field is a plus.
Join a team that values precision and innovation in a regulated manufacturing environment. Benefit from working closely with talented machining, engineering, and quality teams. Engage in continuous improvement efforts and contribute to a company that supports professional growth and development.
