Job Description
The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations. This role requires a thorough understanding of blood draw procedures and specimen collection, ensuring adherence to established protocols.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens while recording maintenance data and performing decontamination.
- Update patient information as required.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Understand and follow all physicians' orders.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
- Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport.
- Store specimen samples according to required temperatures and protocols.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to fulfill inquiries.
Essential Skills
- 2 years of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
- excellent customer service
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Strong customer service skills, with a respectful and understanding approach to patients.
- Pediatric experience is a plus.
- Must be able to work well with others in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment
This role is based in a Patient Service Center (PSC) and requires drawing over 100 patients daily. The work environment is fast-paced, and the majority of the shift involves standing. The team focuses on both pediatric and geriatric specialties. The role involves working collaboratively with a team, and approximately one week of training is provided at the start of the role.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Huntsville, Alabama.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.50 - $18.50/hr.
