Position Summary

Route Supervisors are responsible for overseeing a team of drivers to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality service to customers. This role supports Route Managers with hiring, training, coaching, performance management, and disciplinary actions, with a strong emphasis on safety, customer service, and productivity. Work hours and physical demands may vary based on route and operational needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage daily activities and performance of assigned route drivers
• Train, coach, and develop employees to improve safety, service, and productivity
• Monitor and enforce safety policies, quality standards, and regulatory compliance
• Cover routes as needed due to absences, vacations, or equipment breakdowns
• Track attendance, performance documentation, and disciplinary records
• Conduct driver observations and vehicle inspections
• Plan, distribute, and monitor daily route assignments to ensure customer service commitments are met
• Investigate accidents, injuries, and property damage incidents
• Ensure proper work practices and safety procedures are consistently followed
• Perform additional duties as assigned, including filling in for supervisors, office staff, or drivers when necessary

Supervisory Responsibility

• Direct supervision of 11–20 employees

Skills and Abilities

• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency with computers and Microsoft/Windows applications
• Proven customer service and problem-solving skills
• Knowledge of service area and ability to read maps
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions
• Working knowledge of DOT and OSHA regulations
• Ability to operate manual transmission vehicles (preferred)

Experience and Qualifications

• Previous supervisory or management experience preferred
• Waste industry experience preferred
• Minimum of 2 years truck driving experience preferred

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs; occasionally up to 100 lbs
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Regular exposure to dust, odors, mist, gases, and airborne particles
• Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and balancing

Additional Requirements

• Valid Class B CDL required
• Valid DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain prior to hire
• Minimum age of 19
• No more than three (3) moving violations in the past two (2) years
• No DUI/OVI within the past five (5) years or more than two (2) within the past ten (10) years
• Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays
• Availability for 24-hour emergency calls
• Legally authorized to work in the United States
• Ability to read and speak English
• Successful completion of pre-employment testing
