Chief Commercial Officer
Steward Machine Company, a fourth-generation, family-owned leader in precision machining and complex fabrication, is seeking a Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) to join its Senior Leadership Team in Birmingham, Alabama. With over a century of expertise, Steward Machine is renowned for delivering high-quality solutions to the navigable waterway infrastructure sector, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and state Departments of Transportation. The CCO will play a pivotal role in driving the company’s commercial growth strategy, leading business development, and building strong client relationships. This executive position offers the opportunity to shape the future of a historic company, influence company-wide strategy, and help build and maintain critical infrastructure across the nation.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive commercial strategy to accelerate company growth and achieve revenue goals.
- Build and lead a high-performing business development team, including outside sales, inside sales, and estimating functions.
- Establish and strengthen strategic relationships with federal and state infrastructure agencies, engineering firms, and key stakeholders.
- Lead client acquisition efforts in the navigable waterway, lock and dam, and bridge sectors.
- Oversee proposal development, pricing strategies, and contract negotiations to ensure competitiveness and profitability.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and executive teams to align commercial objectives with production capabilities.
- Drive marketing initiatives to position Steward Machine as an industry leader in heavy fabrication for critical infrastructure.
- Represent Steward Machine at industry conferences, forums, and meetings with public-sector clients.
- Evaluate and provide strategic direction on technology and AI innovation initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and competitive advantage.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience in civil infrastructure, marine fabrication, or heavy construction industries, with a strong record of client development in the navigable waterway sector.
- Proven experience working with or selling to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and state Departments of Transportation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (civil, mechanical, or related field required) or MBA
- Demonstrated leadership in business development, sales, and estimating functions.
- Expertise in public procurement and government contracting processes.
- Experience developing and executing effective marketing strategies.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
- Strong enthusiasm, high energy, and a results-driven mindset.
- Forward-thinking approach to technology adoption and innovation, with experience evaluating and implementing business technology solutions.
- Willingness to travel for client meetings, industry events, and site visits as needed.
