Overview
Purpose:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Civil Surveyor to join our growing civil engineering and land surveying team. This full-time, field-based position will support a variety of civil engineering and land development projects throughout the Birmingham and Gulf Coast areas.
The Civil Surveyor will perform boundary, topographic, construction layout, and ALTA/NSPS surveys while working closely with engineers, drafters, and project managers to deliver accurate, high-quality survey information. A company vehicle will be provided for field work.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Conduct field surveys for civil engineering, land development, infrastructure, and construction projects.
- Perform boundary, topographic, construction layout, and ALTA/NSPS surveys.
- Operate GPS/GNSS equipment, total stations, data collectors, and other surveying instruments to collect accurate field data.
- Interpret engineering plans, construction drawings, plats, deeds, legal descriptions, and other project documents.
- Collect, verify, and maintain accurate field measurements, notes, and survey documentation.
- Perform construction staking and layout activities as required.
- Coordinate with civil engineers, surveyors, drafters, project managers, contractors, and other project stakeholders to ensure survey information supports project requirements.
- Assist with survey calculations, data processing, drafting, and CAD-related tasks as needed.
- Utilize survey and engineering software, including Trimble, Leica, Civil 3D, or comparable platforms.
- Identify field conditions or discrepancies that may affect project requirements and communicate findings to the appropriate project team members.
- Maintain surveying equipment and ensure instruments are properly operated, cared for, and calibrated.
- Follow applicable surveying standards, company procedures, project requirements, and job-site safety protocols.
- Work independently in the field while maintaining effective communication with the office and project team.
- Travel to various project sites throughout the Birmingham and Gulf Coast areas as needed.
- Complete additional surveying and project responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
What You Will Bring
Technical and Field Experience:
- Experience in land surveying, construction surveying, civil surveying, or a related field is preferred, but candidates of all experience levels are encouraged to apply.
- Working knowledge of boundary, topographic, construction, and/or ALTA/NSPS surveying practices.
- Familiarity with GPS/GNSS equipment, total stations, data collectors, and related surveying instruments.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, plats, deeds, legal descriptions, and construction documents.
- Familiarity with surveying software and technology such as Trimble, Leica, Civil 3D, or comparable systems is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate field data and documentation.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in varying field and site conditions.
- Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary civil engineering team.
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors and adapt to changing weather, terrain, and project conditions.
- Commitment to workplace safety and professional standards.
- Valid driver's license required.
Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:
Required:
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to perform field-based surveying work and travel to project sites as required.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, Geomatics, or a closely related field, particularly for candidates with limited professional experience.
- Prior experience in land or construction surveying.
- Experience with Trimble, Leica, Civil 3D, or comparable surveying and CAD software.
- Relevant surveying certifications or training.
- Progress toward professional surveying licensure or other applicable credentials.
