Primary Purpose of the Position

  The Millwright is responsible for assembling machined, fabricated, and purchased component or parts in a timely, efficient, and safe manner in order to promote and support the success of Steward Machine Company.

 E ssential Functions / Duties

  • Precisely stage, set, and connect complex assembly components for critical projects.
  • Utilize a diverse array of precision measuring tools to meticulously verify fits and finishes, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Interpret and apply intricate blueprints to accurately set up assembly components to exact specifications.
  • Skillfully align shafts and couple them to gear boxes, ensuring seamless mechanical integration.
  • Adeptly determine and apply the precise fits and finishes required for flawless final assembly.
  • Demonstrate strong self-motivation and proactive problem-solving in addressing operational needs and issues.
  • Anticipate upcoming work requirements and proactively communicate needs to prevent production delays.
  • Maintain a meticulously clean and organized work area, contributing to a safe and efficient environment.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, ensuring personal and team safety, and promptly report equipment malfunctions to the appropriate authority. Execute additional tasks as directed by supervision.

This pivotal position is based at our state-of-the-art Plant 1 in Birmingham, Alabama, a key hub for our innovative operations.

Job Requirements

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Possess a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent, providing a strong foundation for technical learning .
  • Demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, and essential mathematical concepts, including fractions, decimals, and trigonometry, crucial for precise calculations.
  • Exhibit expertise in utilizing precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, gages, and transit levels to ensure accuracy in all tasks.
  • Capability to meticulously read and interpret complex engineering drawings, translating designs into tangible results.
  • Adeptly operate overhead and jib cranes, ensuring safe and efficient material handling.
  • Skillfully interpret and execute diverse instructions presented in written, verbal, diagrammatic, or scheduled formats.
  • Possess the ability to independently solve complex technical challenges, demonstrating critical thinking and problem-solving prowess.

Preferred Requirements

  • Valuable experience in construction, fabrication assembly, or welding is a significant asset that will enhance your contribution to our projects.
  • Previous experience utilizing precision measuring instruments is highly valued and will be leveraged in this role.

Working Conditions

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, extreme heat or cold, wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Requirements

This engaging role requires an active, hands-on approach, regularly involving standing, walking, and sitting, along with the skillful use of hands for handling and feeling, reaching with hands and arms, and effective communication through talking and hearing. Occasionally, the role may involve dynamic movements such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, crawling, and utilizing the sense of smell. The ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds is essential. Success in this role is also supported by specific visual capabilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, all crucial for precision and safety.
