Based in Huntsville, AL, this senior technical role will provide deep domain expertise while actively supervising engineering staff and guiding organizational growth in high-energy laser technologies.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in high-energy laser source technologies, including fiber lasers, diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) lasers, and beam combination architectures. In addition to driving technical excellence, the SME will oversee day-to-day technical execution of junior staff, shape internal capability development, and serve as a visible leader in both engineering and personnel management.---
Key Responsibilities:
· Serve as the technical authority and supervisor for all aspects of laser source design and integration.
· Oversee and manage day-to-day activities of engineers assigned to laser source development, including task assignment, technical guidance, and performance monitoring.
· Lead the design, modeling, and simulation of high-power, high-brightness laser architectures.
· Guide the selection, integration, and qualification of critical components such as gain media, pump diodes, optical isolators, beam combiners, and cooling systems.
· Define test plans and manage lab-based validation and verification of laser modules and subsystems.
· Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams (optical, thermal, control, electrical, and software) to ensure cohesive system performance.
· Conduct and review system-level trades to optimize beam quality, thermal performance, and reliability.
· Contribute to the development and maintenance of long-term technical roadmaps for EO Solutions' directed energy capabilities.

· Experience leading development teams and mentoring technical talent.
· Proven track record of delivering laser systems for aerospace, defense, or industrial applications.
· Deep understanding of nonlinear optics, beam quality metrics, thermal management, and laser safety standards.
· Experience with commercial optical simulation tools (e.g., Zemax, LASCAD, or equivalent).
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
· Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience building and leading technical teams to overcome technical challenges
· Experience with beam combination (coherent or spectral), wavelength stabilization, or pulsed laser architectures.
· Knowledge of optical coatings, fiber splicing, and environmental qualification testing.
· Familiarity with laser integration into tracking systems, beam directors, or targeting platforms.
