A financially strong and fast-growing commercial insurance carrier is expanding its middle-market presence across the Southeast and seeking an outgoing, relationship-driven Production Underwriter to grow new business in the Birmingham and Huntsville markets .

This is a sales-oriented underwriting role where you’ll combine relationship development, business generation, and underwriting expertise to drive profitable growth. The ideal candidate enjoys being out in the field, calling on agents, and seeing the direct impact of their work in new business production.

About the Role

You’ll serve as a key liaison between the carrier and appointed agencies — prospecting, building, and managing agency relationships while underwriting new middle-market commercial accounts. You’ll collaborate closely with regional underwriting leadership, claims, and loss control to deliver responsive, customized solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive new business production through proactive marketing, agency visits, and regular sales calls.
• Underwrite and price middle-market commercial risks (GL, Property, Auto, WC) within delegated authority.
• Develop and execute agency growth strategies aligned with company goals.
• Build a deep understanding of each agency’s strengths and market opportunities.
• Partner with internal teams to ensure superior service, retention, and profitability.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial P&C underwriting, marketing, or production experience.
• Proven success developing agency relationships and generating new business.
• Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
• Entrepreneurial mindset and comfort working remotely with travel (40–50%) across AL.
