Position Summary:
AAA United States, Inc . is seeking a skilled Machinist-Class A to works within a team environment to install, repair, and align shipboard equipment while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and efficiency.
Essential Functions:
- Install shipboard equipment safely and productively in accordance with engineering specifications.
- Disassemble, diagnose faults, repair, and reassemble mechanical systems and equipment.
- Mark and measure installations to precise tolerances using calibrated equipment.
- Safely rig equipment while adhering to all OSHA and company safety standards.
- Perform inspections, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions.
- Follow established work procedures and contribute to a culture of continuous quality improvement.
- Mentor and assist in developing the skills of fellow team members.
- Promote innovation and efficiency improvements within the department.
- Support waste reduction initiatives by controlling materials and consumables.
- Assist in maintaining department equipment and ensuring its proper care and use.
- Contribute actively toward the team goal of delivering vessels on time and to the highest quality standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area with tools and equipment properly stored and protected.
- Adhere to company guidelines for both on-site and off-site assignments.
- Perform work compliant with NAVSEA Standard Items when applicable.
- Travel to off-site work locations as required.
- Minimum five (5) years of relevant trade experience, two (2) years of shipbuilding experience, comparable apprenticeship training, or one (1) year experience as a B-Class Outside Machinist.
- Demonstrated expertise in shaft alignment techniques, including the use of laser alignment systems and dial indicators.
- Working knowledge of machining procedures and mechanical systems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with ship terminology.
- Proven ability to interpret engineering drawings and job specifications.
- Ability to safely operate and set up fixed and portable machinery to meet precision tolerances.
- Competence in reading and understanding written instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Basic math skills, including the ability to use the metric system.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to follow verbal and written directions with minimal supervision.
- Ability and willingness to travel for temporary off-site assignments, following company policy.
