Learn more about our extraordinary teams building inspiring projects in our Impact Report . # Project Overview: Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA) plans to invest in the construction of a new aluminum smelter in the U.S., making it the first primary aluminum production plant to be built in the U.S. Feasibility studies must be initiated to advance the engineering development process through its various phases. # Job Summary: In this role, you will supervise a team of environmental engineering personnel, estimate project staffing needs, and schedule and assign work. You will prepare discipline estimates and work plans and review and approve environmental engineering investigations and studies. Your leadership will drive successful implementation of recommendations to improve the environmental impact of engineering projects. \#LI-NP1 # Major Responsibilities: + Plans, develops, directs, and participates in the day-to-day Environmental Engineering activity on small to medium sized projects or a portion of a major project with minimal to moderate complexity within a global business unit utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)​ + Supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of personnel assigned, estimates staffing needs and schedules and assigns work accordingly​ + Provides the technical input to meet procurement requirements​ + Prepares or oversees the preparation of Environmental Engineering discipline estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly​ + Reviews and makes recommendations of the Environmental Engineering aspects of bid evaluations and awards for approval by project engineering​ + When directed, coordinates with client representatives to obtain their approval of Environmental Engineering aspects of the work​ + Reviews and approves key calculations, licensing evaluations, design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, and change orders, for the project to which assigned​ + Ensures that assigned Environmental Engineering personnel receive appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development​ + Assists in the preparation and reviews of project procedures and cost estimates for proposals, forecasts, and change orders # Education and Experience Requirements: + Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience # Required Knowledge and Skills: + In-depth knowledge of applicable environmental and sector regulations. This includes the ability to ensure designs are developed in compliance with these regulations and to address critical issues related to environmental variables and state and federal permit requirements. + Managing environmental and sector permits is crucial. This involves identifying, developing, and implementing sustainability initiatives in the design, as well as preparing and monitoring the documentation required to obtain permits. + **Environmental Impact Assessment:** Knowledge of environmental impact assessment, including the evaluation of waste, liquid, and atmospheric emissions. This also includes the preparation of compliance matrices and compliance plans. + **Work Methodology:** Familiarity with specific work methodologies for engineering projects, such as the use of data collection and analysis tools, and the development of detailed, AGILE, and LEAN plans and reports. + **Experience in Similar Projects:** 5 to 10 years of experience developing similar projects is required, including pre-feasibility and feasibility studies with the development of environmental components. + **Risk Identification and Assessment:** Guide the identification, evaluation, and control of risks that may have a negative impact on the health and/or safety of people, damage the environment, the integrity of assets, or a negative social impact. + Promote the zero-accident performance philosophy and ensure that health, safety, and environmental requirements are incorporated into the design. + Review and validate the environmental, safety, and health records submitted by the client and monitor the incorporation of proposed risk control initiatives. + In summary, an Environmental and Permitting Discipline Leader in Houston should possess extensive knowledge of environmental and industry regulations, experience in permitting and environmental impact assessment, and skills in risk identification and control.
