Director of AccountingLocation: Mobile, Alabama Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)Join Our TeamWe are seeking an experienced hands-on Director of Accounting to lead our accounting function and help drive the continued growth of our 100% employee-owned company. This leader will oversee all accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, compliance, and team development while partnering closely with executive leadership to support sound business decisions.This is an outstanding opportunity for a proven accounting leader who enjoys building strong teams, improving processes, and making a meaningful impact across a growing, multi-entity organization that is an ESOP. What You'll DoFinancial LeadershipLead and oversee the monthly and annual financial close processes.Ensure timely and accurate financial statements for multiple entities in accordance with GAAP.Provide oversight of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analyses.Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts.Analyze financial results and communicate meaningful insights to executive leadership.Team Leadership & DevelopmentLead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team.Establish departmental goals, performance expectations, and professional development plans.Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, customer service, and continuous improvement.Build organizational depth through coaching and succession planning.Internal Controls & ComplianceStrengthen and maintain an effective internal control environment.Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.Identify financial and operational risks and recommend practical solutions.Ensure audit readiness and continuous process improvement.Audit & Business PartnershipsServe as the primary contact for external auditors.Coordinate annual audits, reviews, and compliance engagements.Oversee preparation of audit schedules and supporting documentation.Partner with banking, insurance, tax, and consulting professionals as needed.Strategic SupportCollaborate with executive leadership to provide financial guidance and business insights.Support acquisitions, due diligence, integration, and other strategic initiatives.Participate in cross-functional projects that improve the organization.What We're Looking ForEducationBachelor 's degree in Accounting (required)CPA, CGMA, or CMA designation (required)Master's degree preferredExperience10 + years of progressive accounting experience5+ years leading and developing accounting teamsStrong knowledge of GAAP and financial reportingExperience leading financial statement audits Experience designing and improving internal controlsExperience in multi-entity and multi-location organizationsSkills & QualificationsStrong technical accounting expertiseExcellent analytical and problem-solving abilitiesProven leadership and people development skillsStrong communication and presentation skillsExcellent organizational and project management capabilitiesAbility to influence and collaborate across all levels of an organizationPassion for continuous improvement and operational excellenceWhat Success Looks LikeThe successful candidate will:Deliver accurate, timely financial reportingLead a highly engaged and high-performing accounting teamImprove accounting processes and operational efficiencyStrengthen internal controls and maintain audit readinessBuild trusted relationships throughout the organizationServe as a strategic business partner to the CFO and executive leadershipKey Performance MeasuresTimely completion of monthly and annual closeFinancial statements issued within established deadlinesClean audit results with minimal adjustmentsStrong internal control complianceContinuous improvement of accounting processesTeam engagement, development, and retentionAccuracy and reliability of financial reportingWhy Join Us?As a leader in our organization, you'll have the opportunity to shape the future of the accounting function while contributing to the success of a growing employee-owned company.
