Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Pattern Maker to fabricate, machine, fit, and assemble materials used in the creation and repair of foundry pattern and core box tooling. This role supports sand molding processes—including green sand, air set molding, and shell core applications—for the production of iron castings. The ideal candidate will perform part production and reverse engineering to maintain and replace tooling, contribute to project planning, and help develop solutions to safety, production, and quality challenges. This position requires specialized skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

### Primary Tasks & Responsibilities

- Design and build fixtures, templates, scale models, and devices.

- Interpret blueprints, plan sequences of operations, and fabricate core boxes and molds.

- Set up, adjust, and operate machine tools (lathes, milling machines, shapers, grinders) for precision machining.

- Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and materials.

- Machine parts to specifications using appropriate tools and equipment.

- Measure, examine, and test completed units to ensure conformance to specifications using precision instruments.

- Assemble, fit, and hand-finish patterns using hand tools.

- Verify pattern and core box conformity to blueprint specs and quality standards.

- Perform alterations and repairs to patterns and core boxes as needed.

- Maintain accurate records and complete required documentation.

- Inspect equipment daily for safe working condition.

- Follow all standard safety practices and support a safe work environment.

- Store inventory and materials in an organized, labeled manner consistent with 5S principles.

- Participate in team activities, safety initiatives, ergonomic improvements, and continuous improvement projects.

### Requirements

Education & Experience:

- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on pattern making experience in a foundry or manufacturing environment.

Technical/Functional Skills:

- Proficiency in reading blueprints and technical drawings.

- Experience operating manual machine tools (lathes, mills, grinders).

- Knowledge of sand molding processes (green sand, air set, shell core).

- Ability to perform precision measurements with tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.

- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work from verbal or written instructions.

- Familiarity with 5S principles and safety protocols in an industrial setting.

- Team-oriented mindset with strong communication skills.

### Work Environment & Physical Requirements

- Physical Demands: Standing for extended periods, repetitive hand/arm motion, bending, stooping, reaching, pulling, and walking. Must be able to lift and move up to 40 lbs.

- Foundry Environment: Exposure to humidity, airborne particles, temperature variations (heat/cold), and loud noise from operating machinery. Facility is equipped with heaters, fans, and air systems to improve working conditions.
