Job Description

Position Overview

Hive Group, a HUBZone-certified SDVOSB and multiple award-winning organization, delivers innovative solutions for complex, mission-critical federal programs is seeking an exceptional Executive Officer (XO) to support a senior leader within a Department of Defense acquisition organization at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. This position extends beyond traditional executive support. The Executive Officer serves as a trusted member of the executive office, providing disciplined coordination, executive communications support, and operational continuity across multiple concurrent priorities. The role is designed to strengthen the effectiveness of executive leadership by ensuring critical actions, commitments, communications, and priorities are coordinated with precision and professionalism. This position is intended for professionals who thrive in high-performing executive environments and aspire to become trusted partners to senior leadership.

The standards are exceptionally high. The role demands outstanding judgment, precision, initiative, confidentiality, and rigorous follow-through while offering uncommon opportunities for professional growth, executive-level exposure, and increasing responsibility. The Executive Officer is expected to operate with a level of precision, professionalism, judgment, and reliability consistent with supporting a senior executive in a high-performing Department of Defense acquisition organization. This position offers a unique opportunity to work alongside senior acquisition leadership in a trusted executive support capacity. The successful candidate will gain direct exposure to executive decision-making, organizational leadership, and the operational rhythms of a high-performing acquisition organization while making meaningful contributions to mission success. This position requires an ACTIVE Secret Clearance.

Work Location: This position is performed on-site at Redstone Arsenal, AL. Regular on-site attendance is required to support customer and contract requirements. Telework may be available based on contract requirements and customer approval.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this position is measured by the ability to create clarity, organization, and continuity within a fast-paced executive environment. The successful candidate consistently demonstrates the ability to:

  • Establish structure and maintain visibility across multiple competing priorities.
  • Exercise sound judgment while working independently on sensitive matters.
  • Prepare executive correspondence, briefing materials, and decision support products with exceptional accuracy and attention to detail, requiring minimal supervisory revision.
  • Anticipate executive requirements and proactively coordinate actions before issues become urgent.
  • Build productive working relationships across government, military, and industry stakeholders.
  • Maintain discretion while handling sensitive and pre-decisional information.
  • Maintain exceptional accuracy while tracking executive commitments, ensuring critical actions are completed correctly, on time, and without requiring repeated follow-up.

This role is best suited for professionals who take pride in enabling executive success, enjoy solving complex organizational challenges, and consistently bring order, discipline, accuracy, and follow-through to demanding environments.

Primary Responsibilities

The Executive Officer will:

  • Coordinate executive priorities, taskings, and organizational commitments.
  • Monitor executive action items and ensure timely completion of critical deliverables.
  • Prepare executive correspondence, decision papers, talking points, briefing materials, and presentations.
  • Draft polished executive communications requiring minimal revision.
  • Coordinate executive meetings, agendas, read-ahead materials, and follow-up actions.
  • Capture decisions, track commitments, and ensure accountability through completion.
  • Assess incoming executive actions and assist in prioritizing work based on mission requirements and executive guidance.
  • Coordinate information requests and consolidate inputs from multiple organizations.
  • Serve as a professional liaison between executive leadership and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify emerging issues requiring executive awareness.
  • Maintain operational continuity across multiple simultaneous activities.
  • Handle sensitive information with the highest degree of discretion, professionalism, integrity, and accuracy.

Experience That Will Help You Succeed

The strongest candidates will bring experience in one or more of the following:

  • Supporting senior executives within government, military, or corporate environments.
  • Executive Officer (XO), Action Officer, Executive Operations, or senior executive support roles.
  • Department of Defense or Federal Government organizations.
  • Federal acquisition, contracting, program management, or related mission support organizations.
  • Coordinating executive-level actions within fast-paced operational environments.
  • Preparing executive correspondence, briefing materials, and decision support products.

Experience supporting a Department of Defense acquisition organization or familiarity with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Defense Acquisition University (DAU) coursework, acquisition processes, or contracting environments is highly desirable and will help accelerate success in this role. However, acquisition experience alone is not the defining characteristic of a successful candidate. Individuals with exceptional executive support, executive operations, military headquarters, or action officer experience who demonstrate outstanding judgment, initiative, operational discipline, and meticulous attention to detail are strongly encouraged to apply.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Secret Security Clearance.
  • Minimum of a BA/BS and 3 years’ experience directly supporting DoD program(s) or comparable commercial operations as an acquisition/program analyst overseeing cost, schedule, and performance.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in DoD program management, or three (3) years’ commercial experience in an integration environment providing strategic level analysis, communications, and staff coordination for executive level review.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting senior leaders or executive-level organizations.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities while maintaining precision and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and disciplined follow-through.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and integrity.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams.

Professional Attributes

The successful candidate is recognized by colleagues as someone who:

  • Earns trust through reliability, professionalism, sound judgment, and consistent follow-through.
  • Creates an organization where complexity exists.
  • Produces consistently accurate, high-quality work and is trusted to get the details right the first time.
  • Maintains composure and effectiveness in high-tempo environments.
  • Exercises initiative without requiring constant direction.
  • Communicates with clarity and professionalism at all organizational levels.
  • Protects sensitive information and maintains executive confidence.
  • Builds productive relationships while representing the executive office with professionalism.
  • Demonstrates ownership, accountability, and operational discipline in every aspect of their work.

Why This Opportunity Is Different

This role provides uncommon exposure to executive leadership within a Department of Defense acquisition organization. The successful candidate will work alongside senior leaders responsible for complex organizational priorities and gain valuable experience supporting executive decision-making, organizational leadership, and executive operations.

The pace is demanding, the standards are exceptionally high, and the level of trust placed in this position is significant. In return, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop professionally through meaningful responsibility, close collaboration with senior leadership, and participation in work that directly supports mission execution. This position is well suited for professionals seeking to expand their experience within a senior executive environment while contributing to the success of a high-performing acquisition organization. It is an opportunity to earn trust, develop executive judgment, and build capabilities that serve as a strong foundation for future leadership opportunities

Compensation and Benefits

The estimated compensation range for this position is between $129,200 - $142,900 annually. Actual salary is determined by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s specialized skills, certifications, and years of experience relative to the area benchmarks.
