We are seeking a highly motivated Medical Lab Scientist I to join our dynamic team in Birmingham. This role involves performing a variety of laboratory tests and procedures, contributing to patient care by delivering accurate and timely results.

Responsibilities

• Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
• Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
• Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
• Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem-solving.
• Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
• Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care.
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
• Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
• Assist with processing of specimens when needed.
• Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or meet local regulatory CLIA State requirements.
• 0-2 years of clinical laboratory testing experience.
• At least 1 year of microbiology testing experience.
• Experience with microbiology testing, including plate reading and gram staining.
• Familiarity with Cerner or Epic systems.
• ASCP or AMT certification preferred.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Proficient with computers and laboratory information systems.
• High level of attention to detail, strong communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to pass a standardized color vision screen.
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• State Medical Technologist license may be required.
• Familiarity with general laboratory and microbiology departments.
• Experience in reading plates, reading susceptibilities, and general lab procedures.

Work Environment

The position is based in a hospital laboratory setting at 50 Medical Park East Drive, Birmingham, AL. The role supports the Core Lab with a specific focus on Microbiology. The working hours are from 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with 10-hour days and every other weekend required. Scheduling is done one month in advance. The team is currently short-staffed, and there is an opportunity for longevity and growth within a reputable company.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Birmingham, AL.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $36.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Birmingham,AL.
