1st Class Structural Welder

The 1st Class Structural Welder is responsible for welding, fabricating, and repairing structural steel components used in the construction and maintenance of commercial, military, and offshore vessels. This position requires proficiency in multiple welding processes, the ability to read and interpret shipyard blueprints and welding symbols, and a strong commitment to quality workmanship and safety. The ideal candidate has shipyard experience and can perform high-quality welds in various positions while working in demanding marine construction environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform structural welding on ship hulls, bulkheads, decks, foundations, and other vessel components.
• Read and interpret blueprints, welding procedures, technical drawings, and welding symbols.
• Utilize FCAW, SMAW, GMAW, and other approved welding processes as required.
• Weld carbon steel, stainless steel, and other materials in accordance with shipyard and customer specifications.
• Prepare materials for welding by fitting, grinding, beveling, and cleaning surfaces.
• Perform welding in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
• Inspect completed welds to ensure compliance with quality standards and applicable codes.
• Repair defective welds and perform structural modifications as required.
• Work closely with shipfitters, supervisors, inspectors, and other trades to meet production schedules.
• Maintain welding equipment and ensure a safe, organized work area.
• Follow OSHA regulations, shipyard safety procedures, and all PPE requirements.
• Work efficiently in confined spaces, elevated work areas, and various outdoor weather conditions.

Qualifications:

• Shipyard or marine construction experience preferred.
• Demonstrated proficiency in FCAW and SMAW structural welding processes.
• Ability to pass shipyard weld qualification tests.
• Strong understanding of welding symbols, blueprint reading, and fabrication practices.
• Experience welding structural steel in all positions.
• Ability to use grinders, torches, measuring tools, and other fabrication equipment.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and productivity in a fast-paced shipbuilding environment.
