Northrop Grumman Space Systems - Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Staff Mechanical Engineer to support the Ground Weapons System (GWS) program. The position is in Huntsville, AL. **Position Overview:** The selected Staff Mechanical Engineer responsibilities will include the support of the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Weapons System (GWS) program as an individual contributor on the Hardware Engineering (HWE) team. This role is responsible for the technical quality of hardware engineering products developed by a team of engineers. These products directly support the design and development of the GWS capability on behalf of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/teams comprised of all experience levels. **Basic Qualifications:** + Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 12 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 10 years of related experience, or 8 years of experience with a PhD. + A minimum of 10 years working within the GMD domain and GMD Launch Support Systems hardware experience + Experience drafting & reviewing 2D mechanical drawings per ASME standards + Experience in one or more of the following system engineering knowledge areas: technical planning, requirements derivation, functional analysis, timeline analysis, trade studies, cost and risk analysis, interface definition, system design, system integration, verification and validation, supportability, and effectiveness analyses for total systems. + Applicants must possess excellent communication skills both written and verbal. + Applicants must demonstrate the ability to think critically and capture concepts in work products, presentations, and discussions. + Capable of working both independently and within a team environment. + Ability and willingness to travel 10% to support business needs. + Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start. **Preferred Qualifications:** + Prior experience with engineering PLM systems such as Teamcenter and MRP system such as SAP. + Experience using analytical software tools, to analyze and reduce data to identify key characteristics and trends. + Experience with mission critical and safety critical systems, components, etc. + Familiarity with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Core Standards: MDA-QS-001-MAP, MDA-QS-003-PMAP, MDA Instruction 5000.20-INS (ETR Process) + Experience with Finite Element Analysis and Modeling theory and application using industry standard structural analysis software (ANSYS, GTStrudl, ABAQUS, STAAD, Femap, NX Simcenter, NASTRAN, Creo Simulation or SolidWorks Simulation) + Familiarity with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-1366, MIL-STD-1472, ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14.100, MIL-STD-31000, MIL-STD-461 + DOORS and/or CAMEO exposure Salary Range: $148,400.00 - $222,600.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
