Insurance Sales Representative
Crop Insurance Sales Representative
Farm Shield Crop Insurance Agency, a division of Alabama Farm Credit
Location - Hazel Green, Alabama
Territory Northern 27 counties of Alabama
Reporting Relationship Director of Farm Shield Crop Insurance Agency
Compensation Base compensation of $45,000 to $100,000 depending on experience, plus incentive opportunity
Farm Shield Crop Insurance Agency, a division of Alabama Farm Credit, is looking for a Crop Insurance Sales Representative to join our team in Hazel Green, Alabama.
This role is about more than selling crop insurance. It is about becoming a trusted resource for producers who are protecting one of the most important parts of their operation: their revenue stream.
Farmers make complex decisions every year around production, risk, markets, weather, and cash flow. The right person in this role will help producers think through those decisions, understand their coverage options, and protect the financial foundation of their business.
Farm Shield is the largest crop insurance agency in North Alabama. As part of Alabama Farm Credit, we combine specialized crop insurance expertise with the strength and mission of a cooperative financial services organization. We exist to create value for our members, our team, and the communities we serve.
What Makes This Opportunity Different
You will not be expected to walk in as a fully developed crop insurance expert.
For the right person, we will support you through the licensing process, provide additional training opportunities with our insurance company partners, and help you learn the technical side of the business while working alongside experienced people.
You will report to the Director of Farm Shield Crop Insurance Agency and gradually take on more responsibility within an established portfolio.
This is a strong opportunity for someone who understands Alabama agriculture, enjoys building relationships, and has the drive to grow into a trusted crop insurance professional.
What You'll Do
In this role, you will work with producers across North Alabama to help them evaluate crop insurance and risk management options that support their operation.
Your work will include:
Building and maintaining strong relationships with farmers, producers, landowners, agribusiness partners, and referral sources.
Learning each customer's operation so you can connect crop insurance decisions to revenue protection, business risk, and long-term financial stability.
Supporting an established crop insurance portfolio while helping identify opportunities for relationship growth.
Communicating proactively with customers during key crop insurance seasons, including sales, renewals, acreage reporting, servicing, and claims support.
Helping producers understand available coverage options and how those options fit their operation.
Working closely with the Director of Farm Shield Crop Insurance Agency and the crop insurance team.
Supporting growth opportunities around underutilized products, including livestock and pasture protection products.
Representing Farm Shield and Alabama Farm Credit professionally in the agricultural community.
The rhythm of this role follows the crop insurance calendar. Some seasons are focused heavily on sales and renewals. Others require close attention to reporting, servicing, documentation, and follow-up. During peak times, communication and accuracy are critical.
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is someone who can naturally talk with producers and also understands agriculture from a business and financial perspective.
This is not a role for someone who relies on sales scripts or surface-level product knowledge. The successful candidate will understand how farmers think and talk about their business, and will be able to naturally bring important conversations about revenue protection, risk, and numbers into the relationship.
A strong candidate may have experience in:
Production agriculture or growing up around a farm.
Agribusiness sales or service.
Ag lending or financial services.
Seed, chemical, fertilizer, equipment, or farm supply sales.
Insurance or relationship-based sales.
Working directly with Alabama farmers or rural communities.
Prior crop insurance experience is helpful, but it is not required.
What matters most is a strong connection to Alabama agriculture, the ability to build trust, a willingness to learn, and the drive to grow.
What Success Looks Like
In the first year, success will be focused on building the foundation for long-term performance.
You should expect to:
Complete the required crop insurance licensing process within the first few months of employment.
Learn the crop insurance calendar, deadlines, systems, and servicing practices.
Build relationships with existing customers and team members.
Begin contributing positively to the team's overall production and customer service.
Grow in confidence as you learn the products, the process, and the customer base.
Over time, the goal is for this person to grow into a senior crop insurance agent role, working closely with the division lead and helping expand Farm Shield's impact across North Alabama.
Team Culture
You will join an experienced, practical, customer-first team that understands the rhythm of agriculture and the importance of getting the details right.
We believe in hiring capable people, giving them the tools and support they need, and then trusting them to execute. The work can move quickly during seasonal deadlines, but the focus stays the same: communicate well, serve members, and help producers make informed decisions.
Location and Travel
This role is based out of our Hazel Green, Alabama office. Farm Shield serves producers across the northern 27 counties of Alabama, supported by 9 offices throughout the territory.
The right person should be comfortable spending time on the road, visiting customers, supporting member needs across the region, and being present where relationships are built — on farms, in offices, and in the agricultural community.
Compensation and Benefits
Base compensation ranges from $45,000 to $100,000, depending on experience and readiness for the role.
Additional benefits include:
Incentive compensation opportunity.
Vehicle support or vehicle stipend.
Health insurance.
401(k) with a 9% company match.
Training and support through the licensing process.
Opportunity to grow with North Alabama's largest crop insurance agency.
Education and Licensing
A bachelor's degree in agribusiness, agricultural economics, business, finance, marketing, or a related field is preferred, but the right background matters most.
Crop insurance licensing is required, but prior licensing is not. For the right candidate, we will support you through the licensing process, with the expectation that licensing is completed within the first few months of employment.
If This Sounds Like You
If you understand Alabama agriculture, enjoy building relationships, and want to help producers protect the financial foundation of their operation, we'd like to talk with you.
This is an opportunity to grow into a trusted crop insurance professional with the support of North Alabama's largest crop insurance agency and a team that is committed to serving members well.
