Birmingham, AL (Onsite/Hybrid) Vaco is assisting a financial services organization in Birmingham is seeking an Interim Controller to provide leadership and oversight during a transitional period. This role will manage core accounting operations, ensure accurate financial reporting, and support the business with timely insights.
This is a hands-on opportunity for a seasoned accounting professional who can step in quickly, stabilize processes, and partner with leadership in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee month-end close and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting
- Manage general ledger , account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
- Maintain and enhance internal controls and accounting policies
- Support audit processes and coordinate with external auditors
- Oversee cash management and assist with financial planning activities
- Partner with leadership on reporting, analysis, and special projects
- Identify and implement process improvements to drive efficiency
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA strongly preferred
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within financial services
- Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and controls
- Proven ability to step into interim roles and operate independently
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
