JOB SUMMARY:Provide and promote on behalf of Russell Medical Total Fitness exercise programs and guidelines for patients and fitness members with chronic medical conditions as well as community based fitness programs. Promote the development of physical fitness through exercise, exercise/performance testing, and exercise prescription. Will design group and personal training programs based on sound exercise principles, age and level of fitness and may be expected to give advice on nutrition and lifestyle. Plans and leads exercise and activity sessions in one or more assigned Total Fitness areas but primarily individual memberships. Provide safe, inviting and encouraging exercise atmosphere to individuals and groups. Sets up and monitors class equipment, and ensures its safe use and return. Advise participants on program and class procedures/policies, as appropriate. Provide advice to individuals on the correct method of exercising with aquatics, weight training equipment, exercise bike, Treadmill, stepper, elliptical and exercise apparatus. Ensures that safety and injury prevention policies and procedures are adhered to by participants; reports accidents, unsafe practices or hazards as required. Assists Fitness Coordinator to provide community education and seasonal fitness and recreational events to promote Total Fitness services. Assists Fitness Coordinator with operational management support. Always reflects excellent customer service skills with all members and respect individual confidentiality.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:B.S. or B.A. in Exercise Science, Human Performance and Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Health Promotion, Wellness, Nutrition or Licensed Athletic Trainer with qualifying Bachelor Degree. Comparable Associates Degree with minimum of 2 recent years experience or non related Bachelors Degree with minimum of 4 years recent full time fitness experience.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one year full time practical exercise experience.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR REGISTRATIONS: Current BLS or BLS within 90 days of hire required. Medical Fitness Association Member, American Red Cross Lifeguard or Water Rescuer Training, Prefer ACSM Aerobics/fitness instructor certification (or Current nationally recognized ACE, AFAA NEDITA, or specialized fitness certification etc.), Arthritis Foundation land/aquatic /PACE preferred.
EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, and WORK AIDS: Office machines, hand tools, diagnostic equipment, patient therapeutic equipment/machines, aquatics and health-club and fitness equipment.
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Advanced principles of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, nutrition, diet and first aid. Symptoms of acute exacerbation or chronic medical conditions. Normal geriatric physiology. Physical fitness, hygiene and safety procedures related to aquatic and medical exercise programs. Principles of emotional and psychosocial support of individuals with chronic pain and conditions. Medical terminology. Program management skills including budgeting, productivity, performance improvement, risk management, safety and infection control. Ability to teach and lead group exercise activities.
Hours will vary in 4-6 hour blocks
