SUMMARY OF POSITION FUNCTION:

Assists the Maintenance Department in keeping the buildings and grounds clean and healthy according to safety standards.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists in the interior and exterior janitorial needs, building maintenance, and ground keeping assignments.
• Assists in moving furniture, equipment, or fixtures as required.
• Assists in the repair or replacement of doors, windows, walls, flooring, and other wooden structure.
• Assists in the repair or replacement of plumbing, electrical wiring, heating, air condition systems, lights, control switches, and other electrical items.
• Assists with the planting, pruning, fertilizing, and transplanting of flowers, shrubs, trees, and bushes etc.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

• Knowledge of methods, tools, materials and equipment used in grounds and maintenance work.
• Knowledge of methods and techniques of mowing, edging, pruning and trimming.
• Ability to properly use of cleaning products and equipment
• Capable of following verbal and written instructions
• Ability to read and understand labels and directions
• Proficient in the use of computer software such as MSWord, Excel and Outlook, etc.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• High school graduate or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:

• One year of custodial experience

OTHER:

• Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES :

• Reading, writing and communicating fluently in English
• Hearing and speaking to express ideas and/or exchange information in person or over the telephone
• Seeing to read labels, posters, documents, PC screens, etc.
• Sitting, standing, climbing, moving about or walking for occasional or frequent periods of time
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other equipment and tools
• Kneeling, bending at the waist, stooping and reaching overhead
• Retrieving and storing files and supplies; occasionally carrying and/or lifting light to moderately heavy objects

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Campus and general office setting
• Indoor and outdoor environment
• Exposure to dust, chemicals, cleaning products, variances in temperatures and equipment with moving parts
