What We Look For In a Elementary School English Tutor

• Advanced Subject Mastery: Deep knowledge of phonics and word study, reading comprehension, vocabulary development, grammar fundamentals, sentence structure, narrative and informational writing, speaking and listening skills, and literary element recognition. Emphasizes building literacy foundations through engaging activities and connects English language arts to content area learning and personal expression.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with elementary ELA standards—including Common Core and state standards—and common challenges such as reading comprehension of informational text, writing fluency, and grammar application. Adapts instruction using leveled reading materials, interactive writing workshops, and multisensory phonics activities to support elementary students across all grade levels at varying English Language Arts proficiency levels.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
