Job Description
Join a high‑precision aerospace machine shop as a Quality Inspection Technician, where you will inspect custom, high‑value aerospace components to ensure they meet stringent quality and dimensional requirements. You will work with one‑off and low‑volume parts that vary in size from very small to very large, often requiring an entire shift to complete a single detailed inspection. This position requires strong attention to detail, clear communication, and solid experience in machine shop quality inspection.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed inspections on custom aerospace machined parts, including one‑off and low‑volume components.
- Use precision inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, optical comparators, microscopes, and other precision measurement tools and gauges.
- Conduct visual and optical inspections to verify dimensions, surface finish, and overall part conformance.
- Inspect parts to tight tolerances and aerospace quality standards, ensuring all specifications are met.
- Interpret and work from engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications during the inspection process.
- Document inspection results clearly, accurately, and completely in the required formats.
- Communicate inspection findings effectively with Quality, Machining, and Engineering teams to resolve issues and prevent recurrence.
- Maintain focus, accuracy, and consistency during long, detailed inspections, including inspections that may take an entire shift.
- Perform final inspections and quality checks on completed parts prior to release.
- Support continuous improvement and quality compliance initiatives within the machine shop environment.
- Apply mechanical aptitude and sound judgment when evaluating nonconformances and potential quality risks.
- Minimum of 3+ years of quality inspection experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience inspecting machined metal parts in a production or job‑shop setting.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Hands‑on proficiency with precision inspection tools, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, optical comparators, and other precision measurement gauges.
- Experience performing visual inspection, optical inspection, and final inspection of precision components.
- Working knowledge of quality control, quality assurance, and quality inspection practices in a machine shop environment.
- High level of attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency when measuring and recording data.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document findings clearly and communicate effectively with cross‑functional teams.
- Comfort working with high‑dollar, custom parts where quality and dimensional accuracy are critical.
- Mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand how part features and tolerances affect function and fit.
- Comfort working in an aerospace machine shop environment with tight tolerances and rigorous quality expectations.
- Experience using coordinate measuring machines (CMM) for dimensional inspection.
- Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles and their application in inspection.
- Background in quality inspection for aerospace or medical device components.
- Experience supporting continuous improvement and quality compliance initiatives.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Quality, Machining, and Engineering teams in a machine shop setting.
Join a high‑precision manufacturing environment where quality is valued, craftsmanship is respected, and your expertise directly contributes to the performance and safety of critical aerospace components. You will work with complex, custom parts that keep the work engaging and technically challenging, while collaborating closely with experienced professionals in quality, machining, and engineering. The environment supports continuous improvement, professional growth, and the development of advanced inspection skills.
