OpenStack Administrator (Remote, USA)
We are seeking an OpenStack Administrator for a global technology company. In this role, you'll be responsible for designing, deploying, managing, and troubleshooting OpenStack environments across bare metal, virtual machines, and containerized infrastructures. This role partners closely with engineering and DevOps teams to ensure high availability, scalability, and performance across R&D lab environments. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in OpenStack services, automation, and integrations, with strong troubleshooting skills across networking, storage, and cloud services.
This is a 3 month contract (extensions possible), 40-hour-per-week, remote role in the USA.
This is a W-2 role as a Stage 4 Solutions employee. Health benefits and a 401K are offered.
Must be available to work North America (NAM) business hours, with flexibility to start earlier on certain days to collaborate with team members in India (IST).
Responsibilities
- Deploy and manage OpenStack environments, both manually and using automation frameworks such as Ansible, Fuel, and Kolla (Red Hat OpenStack, Mirantis, and other vendor solutions).
- Configure and maintain core OpenStack services: Nova, Neutron, Cinder, Glance, Keystone, Swift, Heat, Ceilometer.
- Perform upgrades across OpenStack releases (e.g., Kilo Liberty Mitaka).
- Automate infrastructure provisioning using Ansible, Terraform, Chef, and Puppet.
- Support bare-metal provisioning and virtualization with KVM and VMware ESXi.
- Provision and maintain storage backends (Ceph, Cinder volumes, Swift) and image repositories.
- Ensure secure access and compliance through RBAC and Keystone policies.
- Integrate OpenStack with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Git, Maven, GitHub).
- Monitor and troubleshoot OpenStack services using Nagios and log analysis tools.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in configuring, managing, patching, upgrading, and troubleshooting OpenStack environments (bare metal and automated deployments).
- Strong knowledge of cloud and virtualization platforms: OpenStack, VMware ESXi, KVM, Docker, Kubernetes (optional), OpenShift, AWS (optional).
- Proficiency with Linux OS (Ubuntu, RHEL, CentOS, Solaris).
- Expertise in automation and DevOps tools: Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Terraform, Jenkins, Git, Maven.
- Strong understanding of networking: VLANs, routers, subnets, floating IPs, Neutron services, SDN integration.
- Hands-on experience with storage technologies: Ceph, Cinder, Swift, snapshots, backups, and restores.
- Scripting and programming skills: Bash, Python, Ruby, Perl, C/C++.
- Experience with monitoring and log analysis (Nagios, Splunk, or similar).
- Certified OpenStack Administrator (COA) certification is preferred.
